CSHS Mock Trial Team at Recent State Competition April 5, 2010
KEY WEST, FL
-
Eight students from Coral Shores High School competed in the 20th
Annual Florida High School mock trial competition in Orlando on
March 25-27, 2010. This popular academic competition provides
students with a firsthand opportunity to explore the administration
of justice using a fictional criminal case.

finalists are Virginia Olson of Nye County, Nevada and Janet Meinke
of Monroe County, Florida. |

Nancy Ellsworth is Selected Teacher of the Year February 26, 2010 KEY WEST, FL - Superintendent Dr. Joseph Burke has announced that Nancy Ellsworth, a Physical Education/Health teacher from Coral Shores High School has been named Monroe County School District’s Teacher of the Year. Nancy Ellsworth has been a teacher for 35 years,
25 at Coral Shores High School. She is a National Board Certified
educator who is a member of the school’s Building Level Planning
Team and the School Health Advisory Council. Last year, she served
as a Physical Education curriculum writer for the Florida Department
of Education. She believes public education has the responsibility
to prepare students to lead productive and healthy lives.

District Announces Chief Operations Officer (COO) January 11, 2010
KEY WEST, FL
- Monroe County School District has announced the selection of Mr.
Jesus Jara as Chief Operations Officer. Mr. Jara served for five
years in the Miami-Dade School District before assuming
administrator roles in the Springfield Massachusetts schools,
including the principalship of a senior high school. Mr. Jara was
the number one choice of the interview team. |

District Announces Top 3 Positions for Chief Operations Officer (COO) January 6, 2010
KEY WEST, FL
- The
Monroe County School District is pleased to announce the names of
three finalists for the position of Chief Operations Officer for the
school district. In addition to supervising the operations of the
schools and the school principals, the person selected will oversee
the operations of maintenance and construction, transportation, food
services, charter schools, athletics and activities. This
individual will also be charged with specific improvements in the
performance of the district’s high schools. |

Dr. Joseph Burke Sworn in as Interim Superintendent August 24, 2009
KEY WEST, FL
- Governor Charlie Crist
appointed Dr. Joseph Burke of Rockledge as Monroe County Interim
Superintendent of Schools. He will be sworn in as Interim
Superintendent today at 4:30 pm at the A.J. Henriquez Administration
Building, Board Room, 241 Trumbo Road, Key West, Fl. 33040. Dr.
Burke will be sworn in by the Honorable Judge Wayne Miller. The
Public is cordially invited to attend. |

Assistant Principal Named at Sigsbee Elementary August 14, 2009
KEY WEST, FL
- Mike Henriquez, Acting Superintendent
of Monroe County Schools has announced that
Kathleen Veach will be the assistant principal at Sigsbee
Elementary and will also provide support to Glynn Archer and
Reynolds Schools on an as needed basis. Mrs. Veach holds a Masters
Degree in Educational Leadership, as well as a B.S. in Early
Childhood and Elementary Education. She has worked in the Miami-Dade
school system as an Elementary Alternative Education teacher.
Kathleen has served 15 years as a classroom teacher and this will be
her first year in administration. "Mrs. Veach has been dedicated to
making a difference in our school district and we are proud to have
her join our administrative team," stated Mike Henriquez. |
